Bread for the Little Ones
Since 2004, HIM has supported the Honduras Catholic Diocese of San Pedro Sula and Auxillary Bishop Msgr. Romulo Emiliani Sanchez in his program of "Bread for the Little Ones". HIM supports the program for feeding street children, where they are given paper vouchers (not money) that they redeem for food at a local out door restaurant. In this way, the project is ensuring that resources are going toward purchasing food.

These children are also given clothing, medical care, teachings on "How to Care for Themselves" and "Spirituality" through the coordination of Father Saturino. All the street children are on drugs of some kind and they all need someone to keep them from dying on the streets. HIM has been supporting this mission project for over ten years.

No Bananas
For many years, HIM Ministries has sponsored the "No Bananas Project." In the past, thousands of Banana Boxes, filled with clothes, food, medical and hygeinic supplies, etc. by people from our area, has been shipped back to Honduras. People paid $10.00 to ship a Banana Box and we loaded many container loads from Johnstown. Father Joe Maurizio and HIM Ministries passed out these boxes to dirt poor families in Honduras. The distribution of these boxes was also made by mission teams who worked in Honduras. This program was very successful. HIM Ministries shipped over 150 tons of salvage (including Banana Boxes) to be distributed to the poor. HIM MInistries coordinated all of these shipments with Bless the Children USA.

Knights of Columbus Support in Central America

Father Joe Maurizio is a former State Chaplain for the Pennsylvania Knights of Columbus. As the former spiritual leader for approximately 68,000 Brother Knights, Father Joe received tens of thousands of dollars in financial support from many Councils, Assemblies, and the State Council of the Knights of Columbus. They have built many buildings, supported mission projects, sponsored children, and sent many Knights on Mission to work with the children of the streets. The Knights continue to sponsor projects with HIM Ministries in every country where they serve.

Rob Hegemann and Family:
Helping to Educate Poor School Children in Honduras
After many trips to Honduras with the HIM Ministries teams, Rob Hegemann joined the Peace Corps and worked in Honduras for two years. HIM Ministries has supported Rob and his family during his two years of service.

While in the Peace Corps, Rob also worked with poor children. Rob’s family purchased laptop computers and they traveled with him to Honduras to set-up the computers, train, and educate. Rob and his family also provided and installed solar panels because the area was so poor that electricity was not available. The Hegemann family also worked in many other ways with the poor children from that area. For additional information see Rob’s blog at

HIM Ministries supports a child through the
Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA)

A picture of Little Olvin, the sponsor child that HIM MInistires supports in Honduras through CFCA. For many years HIM Ministries has supported a sponsor child through CFCA, located in Kansas City. HIM has taken some of its inspiration from CFCA and the ministries they do. A lot of the support that CFCA does is to subsidize desperately poor families who have children, in the hopes that the children will not end up living and begging on the streets. CFCA and their ministries help HIM Ministries to understand where many of the children from the streets come from and how we all have a part in helping to care for the poor children of the world.
